About
I am an artist and architect based in the Hudson Valley in New York. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in art history from Scripps College in 2006 and a Master of Architecture from the Yale School of Architecture in 2012.
My work stems from a longstanding fascination with the material properties of the world around us and Iām inspired by just about everything I see. I've always been interested in the narratives that we project onto our surroundings, and by the power of context and scale to inform those narratives and impressions. Each of my paintings is an exercise that allows me to explore the relationship between space and two dimensional media by playing with scale and texture. This is most often expressed in a tension between my desire to develop overall compositional clarity and my interest in surface treatment. I hope my paintings can be read differently from different vantages; I want them to tell one story when seen from across the room and another when viewed up close. I strive to create paintings that can spark the imagination by playing a game with the eyes.
